About Us

Plaistow day nurseryhas been operating since 2010. We are based on the grounds of Plaistow Primary school. Although, the ownership has changed recently to Little Angels Uni, it has retained the same qualified, committed and caring staff members.

We operate a policy of healthy eating throughout the nursery. This is reflected from running breakfast to snack and our mealtime. Children are served selection of fruits and vegetables to complement their meals and snacks.

Healthy food and snacks are served to reflect religious and dietary requirements. Our food is contracted to Zebedees and we are happy to be working with them. To support children’s Active Learning, staff plan activities based on children’s interest and way of learning.

At Plaistow day nursery, we believe all children will grow, flourish and blossom if opportunities are given. We believe each child is unique and we celebrate the uniqueness in all children. We create an atmosphere that promotes challenging, exciting, inclusive environment for children to learn and develop.

Our curriculum is based on the EYFS (Early Years Foundation Stage). This covers children from birth to 5 years (Reception age). The new framework is designed to meet the needs of each individual child and ensures each child is provided with opportunities to help them learn and develop. The EYFS has seven areas of development. They are:

Prime Areas: Personal, Social & Emotional
Physical Development
Communication & Language development

Specific Area: Mathematics
Literacy
Understanding of the world
Expressive Art & Design

Professional Knowledge

We use our professional knowledge to access children’s development and provide prompt and adequate intervention when appropriate. We also use the birth to 5 matters and the development matters to observe, plan and access children’s learning and development.

Across the nursery our curriculum, practicesand conduct reflect the Seven key features of effective practice. Which are:

  • The best for every child
  • High-quality care
  • The curriculum: what we want children to learn
  • Pedagogy: helping children to learn
  • Assessment: checking what children have learnt
  • Self-regulation and executive function
  • Partnership with parents

Rosebuds room (Babies)

Our baby room is a relaxed, caring and homely environment where our babies are given exceptional care. Babies are encouraged to explore their environment and the exciting learning activities continuously on offer to them. The babies are gently guided through their milestones in their development at their own pace using a range of fun activities planned for them daily depending on their developmental stage and individual needs.

Babies of all ages are encouraged to participate in all kinds of different activities. Regular daily activities consist of hand/finger and free painting, hand and eye coordination activities, sensory activities, going for walks, other various outdoor activities and several more.

Although the baby room has a structured daily routine, we are very flexible to suit routines that babies follow at home. We feel it is important to settle babies gently into our nursery day using a routine they are familiar and comfortable with

Ofsted staffing ratio requirements for this age group is 1:3. We always operate higher levels of adult to child ratios as we believe it is so important to give your child as much care and attention as possible.

Items to bring to Nursery

Each new child is allocated a peg within the nursery when they start nursery for their own belongings. Your child’s key worker will inform you when your baby needs more items.

Items consist of:

  • A change of Spare clothes
  • Comforters
  • Sun cream/sun hat (when appropriate)
  • Nappy cream (if given)
  • Nappies
  • Wipes
  • Bottles
  • Tin of formula milk

As guided by the department of health and food standards agency we are required to make your baby’s bottles up on the premises as they are needed. We ask if you could bring in your baby bottles and a tin of your baby’s formula milk (you are welcome to leave these items in your nursery box and you will be informed by your baby’s key worker when more is required.)

We ask for new tinned formula milk after one month and any unused milk is returned home. We must inform you that a bottle of milk is strictly disposed of after one hour of preparation and all bottles are sterilised before use.

Nappies: We ask for you to supply nappies for your child. Some parents find it beneficial to leave one packet of nappies at nursery and your child key worker will inform you when more nappies are required. We ask if all parents can supply wipes for their children.

Feedbacks:

At the end of the nursery day, slip children in baby room will be given a written slip informing you about activities, food, sleep, nappy change and so on.

Most importantly, a staff member will always be available for a short chat at the end of the nursery day to liaise about your childcare, their nursery day in general, activities they enjoy or any queries and requests that you may have.
